Meeting Moments . . .
Meeting The meeting went off as usual with no bell or podium and no member buttons and Chimmy handled an abbreviated prayer.
After this inauspicious start, Chris announced a new member, James Schowalter of PWSB in Cedarburg (a member profile will occur at a later date.)
Bob Burmeister has asked for a Leave of Absence due to his involvement in two substantial community projects --- which has been granted. Chris asks us to thank him for his years of service to Rotary when we see him.
Diane Lane handed out the Super Bowl Tickets, which are due back 12/18/08. This is a hard final date and our goal is to sell more than 10 per Rotarian.
Carol made an announcement regarding the Honor Flight program for Veterans and asked for the Club’s help. Please call her for details.
Bill Wernecke presented to the Club an opportunity to get involved in an outdoor sculpture area for the new library. The sculpture is to be created by Merlin Olsen, who presented his conceptual, “North Wind,” to the Club. More details will follow to the Board.
The speaker was Rick Hynson (a guest of Chimmy’s) regarding the MCO (Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra) and the camps they are involved with in Madison and Green Lake, as well as other venues. They will be performing at the St. Francis Borgia Church in Cedarburg on the 16th of May. The group is an offshoot of the MSO (Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra) designed for more intimate settings with smaller crowds. Rick presented the Club with an opportunity to copy the Green Lake and Madison model to have camps with kids and the MCO. The students would then perform as a part of the camp in front of an audience. We will be discussing this further at a Board level. See web link below for the MCO:
About the MCO (from the Web Site) The Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra is Milwaukee's only professional chamber orchestra and one of only 65 in the nation. Since its founding in 1973, the MCO has earned a reputation as one of southeastern Wisconsin's finest professional performing arts groups. Critical review, audience response and other feedback reveal that the MCO performs with the highest of artistic integrity and fills a unique niche in satisfying a desire for audiences to hear and for professional artists to perform, chamber music within the greater Milwaukee metropolitan area.
Richard Hynson, the MCO's second Music Director, took over in 2006 succeeding founding Music Director Stephen Colburn after three decades of leadership. Hynson envisions a chamber orchestra that can provide both the community and the musicians with outstanding opportunities to experience orchestral music through creative scheduling and programming, intimate venues and a unique approach to music. Hynson believes that, in the right atmosphere, music can provide not only food for the soul, but an important component of wellness for the body and mind.
